The Volkswagen ID.Buzz is getting big discounts

There are very few vehicles that elicit as much joy when seen in public as the Volkswagen ID.Buzz. It’s bold, bright, nostalgic, and fun, all at once. When people spot it on the streets, they smile, and not many cars will do that these days.

The 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz is a very recent entrant into the EV space, and it debuted following much anticipation after the concept was revealed in 2017. Five years is a long time for the public to wait for the hotly anticipated electric family hauler, and unfortunately, the ID.Buzz hit the scene when interest in EVs was cooling off due to charging infrastructure challenges, high prices, and changes in the global market.

The ID.Buzz isn’t all the buzz

There’s a lot to love about the brand-new 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz electric minivan, but the price isn’t one of them—the front-wheel drive ID.Buzz base Pro S trim costs $59,995, and the top-end 1st Edition with 4MOTION costs ten grand more at $69,995.

The 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz comes in five trim levels: Pro S, Pro S Plus, Pro S Plus with 4MOTION, 1st Edition, and 1st Edition with 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The closest minivan in terms of price is the plug-in hybrid Pacifica Pinnacle trim, which costs $61,480. That’s a difference of $8,515, which isn’t exactly chump change. A rear-wheel drive Kia EV9 three-row electric SUV starts at a few thousand less than the base ID.Buzz and matches its range, too.

There are discounts to be had on the EV minivan

Large, pricey EVs aren’t exactly moving quickly out of dealerships, so the ID.Buzz doesn’t have a financial leg up on the competition. Motor1 reported that their research of Cars.com shows VW dealerships in Colorado offering ID.Buzz base Pro S trims for significantly below the MSRP. The higher the trim level, the deeper the incentive discounts, to the point where a 1st Edition 4MOTION costs less than the MSRP of the base Pro S trim. That amounts to more than $15,000 in discounts.

In our research, we discovered discounts nationwide, although not as low as the models found in Colorado. Discounts ranged from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand across trim levels. The large selection available for sale at or below MSRP combined with infrequent sightings is also significant, indicating that the ID.Buzz isn’t selling very well. Also notable is the fact that few dealerships are marking up the ID.Buzz. Only new cars in high demand get that dubious honor.

What could likely be significant price hurdles are the potential removal of the $7,500 federal tax credit for new EV purchases and a 25 percent tariff on imported vehicles imposed by the Trump administration. Either one or both measures could put the ID.Buzz even further out of reach for potential buyers. These discounts and incentives make now the right time to buy an ID.Buzz if you’re in the market for a family EV with space and style.

Final thoughts

We think the new ID.Buzz is a phenomenal vehicle in terms of style, space, and driving fun, but the price is hard to stomach. Discounts bring down the price of entry, and it’s possible that there’s room for negotiation with dealerships that aren’t offering discounts right off the bat.

The ID.Buzz makes a compelling case for an electric family vehicle, but waning interest in EVs doesn’t help its case. Discounts certainly make it more compelling, but you’d better move quickly.
